Since when is being a socialist or a communist a bad thing? Keeping in mind, that old world soviets and other totalitarian supporters of oligarchies and dictatorships are not communists; merely passing themselves off as communists as an excuse for the inevitable descent of their forms of government into wells of human corruption. McCarthyism is a failed endeavor, it's just persecution masked by the illusion of security. Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither liberty nor security.

Terrorism isn't right, but doing something extreme to protest the actions of political leaders who for all intents and purposes are above the laws that govern ordinary citizens is nothing new, and it's much more honorable to stand up for something you believe in than to steal from others like nothing more than a common thief.

But then again, this whole argument is moot; There is always a finger to be pointed at all politicians if you intend on condemning someone for associating with people who have questionable pasts. At one time, John McCain aligned himself with such blindly racist bigots as Jesse Helms, Strom Thurmond, and other products of an era that has long since passed. Does that make him a bad person? Of course not. Guilt does not spread with association like some kind of disease, and it is ridiculous to place blame on someone for being able to see past someone else's past and their differences of opinion. It is truly sad to see that people who are otherwise fairly intelligent are ready to condemn someone for something so petty.

Keep in mind, I'm an undecided voter; I'm not some Obama fanboy, if that's the next basis for your argument.
