To final the scalar length of the line is easy.

Code:
int x1, y1, x2, y2;
int a, b ,c;

a = x2-x1;
b = y2-y1;
c = sqrt(a*a+b*b);  //length
I don't understand how you would rotate the formation with out using trig.

I agree, once they come to some object they have to move around the units are gonna lose formation because they will not be able to keep up with the main(leader) unit unless it stops so the units can go back into formation and you cant keep having the unit stop every time the units lose formation. But not only that, you don't really need your units in formation.

I think it would be great to try and make this but pointless to use.

Not pointless IMO. I would use it for defense. ie. revers...etc...Zealots for defensive lines...it would be awesome. I'm not saying the units have to STAY information, to my knowledge, on the ground, there is no way of doing this without HEAVY micro by the program.

Simple. If your doing line formation, for example, the leader is in the middle. Get the slop and run from the line using the code I gave. delta = change in. So, delta x = x2 - x1 (change in x) and delta y = y2 - y1 (change in y). To issue the line, simply reverse x and y for the line the units are suposed to be on.

Not only would it be good for evolves and defense, it'd look pretty hot. Show it off to your ally.

Here's my submission.

Usage:
-download and rename to .zip
-inject with any dll injector (AgentGod's LoaderX is included)
-use Page Up to select a formation
-select the leader, move the mouse to the start point of the directional pointer line, and hit Home
-select the rest of the units in the formation (including the leader), move the mouse to the end point of the directional pointer line, and hit End
-the units should go into formation
-works best with air units
-programmed in C, C++, and AT&T assembly
-licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 (included in the zip file)
Attached Files
File Type: txt Formation.zip.txt (228.5 KB, 75 views)

Very nice. I would have preferred a real key hook instead of an endless GetAsyncKeyState loop, since using the home and end keys causes the screen to move, but Looks like good work regardless. Also, about your unit class, msvc has a pragma setting to set the byte width of the struct padding, gcc has an option for that somewhere, although I can't remember. You win.
