Preferences for character design.

I was just curious on what programs people prefer to use in the making of a character or monster. I have been on countless forums and all people talk about is the world editor. I want to know what people like to use or suggest using for the making of a main character or NPCs. Programs and tutorials for advanced and new users alike.

In my 3D game project, we have an artwork guy that draw on paper, we then import his draw in 3D max to make the model and if needed, some photoshop over it.

Hes so crazy, he have a deviantart page, ill post as soon as he tell me the link.
