easy...all of the red cards were the 8's and the blue card was always the 5 but he turned over 2 cards when he showed the 8 as the blue card....you can buy all of one card decks anywhere.

I believe that it worked like this...

First, the deck was preset with the blue bicycle, which is the five of spades.

It's placed on the bottom of the deck.

He starts the trick by allowing the choosing of any card in the deck.

Usually some card tricks must have the top and/or bottom cards undisturbed.

He chooses himself a card from the middle.

He then places the card back in the middle after the 'shuffling'.

Notice how when he shuffled he only took one card at a time from the TOP of the deck and never shuffled in the bottom cards. Once the location of the deck was chosen, the BOTTOM (5-S) was put on top of the chosen card.

When the card is laid out and the blue card is revealed, he restacks the deck so that it's all in his palm again.

When he flips the card though, he also picks up the eight of diamonds below it. This required the cards to be crisp and new so that no indication of this was easily seen.

After he removes the five of spades from the deck he offers the second pick.

Notice again how his shuffle only involves the top of the deck being removed and placed on the bottom.

And if you justed missed the obviousness of how the card chosen (5-S)(red bicycle) was on the BOTTOM, yet again, then you'd know that the deck is preset with the blue bicycle 5-S being the bottom card of the deck and the 2nd card from the bottom being the 5-S red bicycle.

Btw, notice how the eight of diamonds is used when converted into a 'letter-number' format...
