Army caught destroying evidence of torture programs

The results of an Army probe of the photographs were among hundreds of pages of documents released after the ACLU obtained a federal court order in Manhattan to let it see documents about U.S. treatment of detainees around the world.


The ACLU said the probe shows the rippling effect of the Abu Ghraib scandal and that efforts to humiliate the enemy might have been more widespread than thought.


"It's increasingly clear that members of the military were aware of the allegations of torture and that efforts were taken to erase evidence, to shut down investigations and to humiliate the detainees in an effort to silence them," ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero said.

...Other Army documents released Friday outlined the case of an Iraqi detainee who said Americans in civilian clothes beat him, dislocated his arms, fired an unloaded pistol into his mouth and beat his leg with a bat before making him denounce his abuse claims to win release. A criminal file on the alleged abuse was closed because the probe could not prove or disprove the claims.

Incredible. Utterly incredible. This strikes me as one of the reasons we need a real ****ing revolution, I'm serious, such as tomorrow 30 million people march on DC and level the whitehouse. How can you guys sleep at night, esp. since 40 of those "detainees" in Cuba were "reclassified" American citizens????

Um, did you guys miss the part about how the Army was circulating these photos in an organized program of torture and intimidation to shut-up the prisoners who had been abused and tortured???? This isn't troops going crazy, this is troops following orders to engage in torture programs and then it is them following orders to engage in a total cover-up.

Nice to see the mods are still the epitomy of free-speech supporters. NAAYTE might as well have added the poll option "deal with it you upatriotic ****er!" I wonder how many of you guys would just "deal with it" if you were one of those American citizens caught up back in 2001 in the initial round up and stuck in these torture and exploitation programs ever since then. That's what I hate about this ****ed up war and the governmental controls spreading, noone sees any consequences on themselves until it's WAY too late. Pardon me for trying tp raise others' awareness about the descent into hell, let me return you to your complacent lives so one day 10-20 years from now when the government starts locking groups of you up randomly or insitutes death camps you can be genuinely surprised.

this is a group bush and most of the people in power today are a member off
look at their goals, its basicly about world domination
read some of their articles on there some of them are scary, like on in 1998 about their interest in attacking middle eastern countries like Afganistan, Iraq, Iran, etc
but they said they likely "would not have the support of the american people without a major 'catalyzing event' not unlike pearl harbor"

then 9-11 takes place and they cover up what actually happened, i dont think anyone can say with any certaintly what did happen, one thing thats for sure is its not what they claim happened

whats also interesting is our military had recon, bombing plans, etc everything in place to attack afganistan BEFORE 9-11, our allies knew it, india and UK where reporting it on their TV that we were going to be going to war there BEFORE 9-11, then conveniently right before we are ready to attack 9-11 happens and we storm in right on schedule saying 9-11 was the reason..

Well the article makes it sound like the whole Army is in a big conspiracy but it was probably their close commanding officers or people who committed crimes and destroyed them. The article says the Army destroyed them and tried to cover it up but doesn't say who in the Army did it. But if it was a big conspiracy they need to bust those people and get some new and better people in there...

Intangir, you have got to be kidding about this conspiracy stuff. I'm not going to go through every page but I will disprove one I really know to make my point that these conspiracy guys are usually just crazy.

I saw that one on the discovery channel. They had a whole special on it. Those guys point out a reinforced core. If they watched the discovery channel it wasn't the core that gave the building strength. The reason it could be so tall was because they designed it different. They had engineers on the show that built the building and they said the strength came from the outside of the building. The sides of the building were like a shell and were what was holding the floor up. That's why the floor fell. That is kind of a corny explanation compared to theirs but if you watched it there is no question to what happened.

Hey now, i am 11Bravo Infantry in the US Army. Its the people of my same job that are over in Iraq right now. I just am going into Airborne and then into Ranger school and i can tell you there is no conspiracy going on. A good soldier follows orders and blames it on his commander later.
