They don't live by the same laws that people in other countries live by. It's harder to get an RPG in the US than in the middle of the desert where everyone wants to kill the west.

I didn't say it wouldn't be more slightly more difficult, but you would be surprised how lax security really is, not only in this country or a ****-hole like the middle east, but the entire world. The fact of the matter is if you want something, and it exists, and you have the resources, it could be yours very easily in a relatively short amount of time. It's simply a matter of finding the people that have what you want. Alternatively, RPG's aren't hard to make. It's simply a metal tube that propels a rocket which holds an explosive fragmentation device. The conventional wisdom that effective weapons are a difficult to come by commodity is grossly inaccurate.

This is why trying to keep people from acquiring weapons is a vain and futile quest. People who want weapons badly enough will still get them, and the people who actually need them to protect themselves will not. It's why gun laws don't work, and why this country has gangs (and cults, and religous groups - the Waco Texas incident comes to mind) that consistently give law enforcement a nice hard ass-kicking. Instead, efforts should be shifted to keep the people who want weapons to use for illegal means from wanting them, or alternatively, from using them. The former can be done by investing in developing society, the latter could be done by initiating a totalitarian style purge of the criminal element. Both implementations could be effective and implemented efficiently, depending upon several factors.

It's actually not as hard as you think to get illegal weapons. All it takes is money and trust in the right people. But you guys are sick ****s if you want to kill anyone.

Actually there were also arrests made during the Democratic National Convention because a couple of people were plotting to kill Obama. Now they're 0 for 2.
