Default AMD hits 6.3ghz overclock on upcoming denebs

AMD gets Phenom II to 6.3 GHz - The INQUIRER

All i have to say is wow. AMD might actually have some real competition for us this time after all.

with speeds like that my programs will take only 30 seconds to install instead of a minute!!!!! wow.. lets spend the extra few thousand... meh, the simple purpose of computers, even games are more then adequately met by the hardware, don't know why die-hard nerds really think it's a definite buy.

Shows how much you know Silence... program installation gets the vast majority of it's "speed factor" from the performance of the hard-disk, not the data bandwidth of the CPU, which is what was being measured. But, you are right about one thing - no one (read: home users, most computer enthusiasts, businesses, office employees) "needs" 6.3ghz of CPU power.

Also keep in mind that to get those speeds, liquid nitrogen was used as the coolant.

In all seriousness, January is shaping up to be one of the (and I know how this term gets thrown around like a skanky whore. but that aside) "best times to buy." These cores, the maturity of DX10 cards, and the practical introduction of DDR3, all make a good recipe for longevity.
By no means should anyone rush out to upgrade, but if you've been contemplating/waiting, January looks like the month.

Installing simple programs on my quad core is noticeably faster then on my 2-core and they share the same 500gig hd so that's simply what i basing it from despite just generally saying that yes, such insane speed isn't necessary which is strange to note because my 2-core loads faster then the quad and yet there isn't really much difference between then in relation to programs and anything that would cause strain?... Whatever don't care.

That's because a quad-core CPU can run four times the amount of threads simultaneously than a single core CPU (or two times the amount in the case of your dual-core), and thus make four times the amount of read/write requests per processing "tick" to the hard-drive.

I'm pretty damned excited for Deneb's launch. I'll be picking one up for myself within the first two months.

P4 was just ridiculously inefficient though. That series actually needed Nitrogen cooling to keep up with AMD at the time.
