Out of all the crap that appears on TV and especially the internet, why in your right mind would you blame video-games for violence?

The news is a lot worse than video games...they showed a video of a guy getting his head chopped off. Considerably more realistic than any beheading in games.

Indeed.

As I mentioned, it is but a influence. Its our rights to recieve all kinds of influences and take what we believe from them experiences. Then practice it.

So when these crimes were commited, it was already in thier head. They chose to commit these things.

Which in fact, game books or the warning screens usually express not to do that stuff, and that its illegal. My statement stands, who are we to limit people's free will?

I found beheading videos have made me more peaceful, not sure about the rest of you.

maybe pwned.nl does have a point. Not just by subconscious drilling of the subject of guns and violence, maybe that in addition to anger of losing or in worse cases, being owned on your own clan server. Being exposed to this stuff every day will drill it into your head and make it stay.

Most likely if a kid gets influenced to shoot up his school by playing a video game he was screwed up in the firsat place. Of all the years of my playing "violent video games" I have never once had an urge to go out and shoot somone or kill somone because of what I did. It just dosn't make sense somone would do that. The only people to blame are the parents, If parents shape the kids morals, and make them right than nothing would be wrong with the child.

If video games did cause children to be violent there are many thing that could be done about that. One thing that has already been put into progress in California is having stricter rules for selling "violent games to children". They could make it so there was no way a child could buy a violent video game without a parents permission, I can't think of any at the moment, but it couldnt be very hard. I know that when I go down to EB Games at the mall or the one buy wal-mart where I live I can walk in and they will actually suggest M rated games without any question of my age or anything (I definetly dont look 17), but when I go to my local game stop I cant buy a M rated game. So this shows that alot of kids actually are buying M rated games.

I just hope that all of this dosn't decrease the making of "violent games" cause those are really all I play. Im not worried about buying them cause in 3 months I'll be 17 anyways. If they stopped making violent video games period than that will crush the video game industry for people like me. I hope that this info will help in our debate.

Do non-violent video games cause non-violent actions?

Didn't read all the other opinions, 'cause I don't have much of time, so I'll respond just to Fallen's main post right now...

That's quite simple. Some kids just don't see the difference between reality and cyber-reality. That's prolly why they are doin' such things from time to time.

Because kids spend most of their free time playing video games and those can be really addictive and aggressive.

If you ask me, these kids need a lil' more social life, for example to hang out more with friends, but not in front of the console. Instead they could go out on bikes or do somethng creative together.

I'd have to agree 100% with you there

I have to agree and disagree with EVERYONE. I think that some people are just overly perceptive and ANY form of influence for violence/sex/drugs/alchohol should NOT get use those materials. And, I have had urges to kill/maim, but then I think about "If I go on a shooting spree, what about my friends? They'll be killed in my bloodlust as well..." or, "I won't feel very good after that..." What I mean is, those urges come from everyday pressure, beacuse both of those times, my computer/tv/radio were broken, meaning no influence. Some people are just violent to begin with, remember. Also, as what's-his-face said about fantisizing killing zombies, I happen to consider myself a expert in zombie apoclypse survival. Damn "Dawn of the Dead" and "28 Days Later"...
