Anime Tutorial, for PS

So i thought this Tutorial would be helpfull for all you learners out there who are wanting to learn how to do Anime Art. This is a very Easy tutorial to do there is nothing hard about it just follow the steps and you should end up with a great design.

STEP 1
Scan your work with a 600 DPI resolution (300 if u have RAM problems) Or simply use this image i have provided.


STEP 2
Go to Select-->ALL --> Edit-->COPY
Make a new document; dont change the size of the document as is the same as the copied one. and past the work in the new document. Now u must have a document with 2 layers, background and a new layer; rename the new layer to "outline or something that identifies that layer.

STEP 3
Select the outline layer and go to Image--> adjustments--> curves and set the parameters more or less as in the image.


STEP 4
Now go to filter-->blur-->gaussian blur and set the parameter to 2 pixels, for less resolution, minor the number try something like 0.5.


STEP 5
Now go to Image-->adjustments-->desaturate to make the outline perfectly black.

STEP 6
Go to Image-->adjustments-->levels and set the parameters as in the image. This is gonna wipe out all the imperfections of the image (the perfect set is pulling the right lever to the left until the lines began to fade)


STEP 7
With the outline layer selected, go to the channels panel and click the load selection button. Now go to Edit-->clear to delete all the white areas of the image.


STEP 8
Deselect and check the lock transparent pixels button (this is very important!). Select a very large black brush and paint all the outline (u can paint all the image...with the button checked the only thing u paint is the outline)

STEP 9
Now that we have a perfectly black outline, we may advance for what really matters...Painting!
Create a new layer, name it "skin" (or something that identifies the layer... ill stop repeating myself, sure that u already catched the obvious!) Make sure that the layer is above the outline layer (outline layer is ALLWAYS on top) With the polygon lasso start to select the skin areas an fill them with the lighter skin tone colour u want to colour. When finished do the same to all other areas of the work, ex:Shorts, top, hair, etc...(dont forget to check the lock transparent pixels on that layer as soon u finish a area...VERY IMPORTANT...if for some reason u want to edit the layer first turn on that button to edit freely the transparent pixels)


STEP 10
If your using the picture i provided it should look something like this by now.


STEP 11
Ok, now select the skin layer and pick your dark skin tone to the brush; give the brush a very considerable size with 0% hardness and start to paint the areas that are opposite to the light source (all darker areas of the image)
With the lock transparent pixels active u can paint outside the "skin" without worries as is only the selected area to be painted! This is the secret!

STEP 12
Do the same with all other areas of the work.
Now select the burn tool and set the opacity parameter to 17%; Dark the edge areas to give the area a depth feel, I think u can see what I mean in the image. Again, do it to all the other areas.
Continuing with the burn tool, set the opacity to 8% and make all the tiny details with that parameter


STEP 13
For the highlights, I pick a white brush with 0% hardness and do a dot in the centre of the area I want to highlight.


STEP 14
Now i pick the smudge tool with a strength parameter of 55 and smudge the dot in the direction of the leg, up and down (in this case)

STEP 15
To give a more realistic touch, I smudge the edges of the highlight to adjust it to the roundness of the leg (again, in this case)
Repeat the process to all the areas to be highlighted


STEP 16
To do cloth folds, simply pick a darker colour, make a small dot with the brush and smudge it along the fold u want to create. I think the image is very clear...


STEP 17
I could write countless lines about hair, but the most important thing to explain is to simulate the strains of hair...
Pick the spatter 27 brush and select the smudge tool, set the strength parameter to 75 and do some strokes along the hair flow... again, I think the image is clear about that point


STEP 18
To do the ultimate realistic touch, just paint the outline!
Try to pick the same colour (a little darker) as the adjacent area. Its a boring and time consuming task, but worth it.


STEP 19
Now if you might not get this effect but it you work at it i bet you will eventually end up with something like this, make sure your tones mix in properly time is the most important thing these things arnt ment to come easy. this is my end result.
