Second tutorial, hopefully this one is a little smoother. We're going to be doing something a little more difficult though.
Flaming Text: Like I said before, this is a little harder and make will take a little longer, but it adds a really nice effect. 1. Chances are this will be used for a signature, so make a new image 400 pixels by 120 pixels (or however big you want your sig to be). 2. Create a new Layer and discard the background layer, it will just cause problems later on. 3. Next, select the paint bucket tool, make sure that black is the foreground color (if not press "D"). Click and fill the image with black. *Note: If you can't find the paint bucket, click the gradient and hold down, you should now be able to see it. ![]() 4. Select the text that you wish to use, preferably, use a text that's thicker such as Arial Black. Change the color to white and make the text a decent size so that the flames will look good. ![]() 5. Go to Image-->Rotate Canvas-->90 degrees CCW ![]() 6. Now you need to apply a few filters, start out by going to Filter-->Stylize-->Wind. The default settings should be fine ("Wind" and "From the Right" should be selected). If you want small flames, you can leave it like it is, otherwise, press Ctrl+F to apply the filter again. ![]() 7. Flames aren't straight, so we need to distort them a little. Go to Filter-->Distort-->Ripple. The default setting should be good (100%, Medium size). ![]() 8. Alright, over half way done. Go back to Image-->Rotate Canvas-->90 degrees CW. ![]() 9. Go to Image-->Mode-->Grayscale and press OK to discard color information. If your text and background are on seperate layers prior to this, first go to Layer-->Merge Visible. *Note- The Image will look the same. 10. Now go to Image-->Mode-->Indexed Color. If it asks you to flatten the image say yes. *Note- The Image should look the same. 11. Now go to Image-->Mode-->Color Table. Select "Black Body" under the Table: tab. ![]() 12. Hopefully, you have something that looks like flames. ![]() 13. Retype your text over it. You can resize the new text, change the color, do whatever you want! You might even end up with something like this-- ![]() |
