Flash MX 2004 Professional : Anchor Rotation.

Note: This might only work for Flash MX and higher.

This is a very, very, very important flash technique. It can be used for a countless amount of things, but there are things you should know about it, too.

What is Anchor Rotation? Well, thats just my cheapy name I made up for it, and the sake of this tutorial. Basically its the rotation point of an object, the point the object rotates around when you rotate it using anything, from actionscript to the free transform tool.

If you still don't understand, just keep with me. Lets start by opening our favorite multimedia program Flash.

A hand is an extremely good example of the usage of anchor rotation. Lets take a look. First, I quickly drew a hand for demonstration purpouses:

Draw some type of hand for now. Convert it to a graphic/movie clip. Then, select the free transform tool and click on your object, so its selected. Whats circled in red in the next picture is the anchor point.

If you haven't checked already, notice the fact you can move it around. For a hand, here is probably the place you want to put it:

Try it now. To test this, try using the free transform tool and rotate the object. If you did this right (I dont know how you could screw up) it will rotate around that point.

Now add a tween in and your all set to go! You can check it out here:

There is only one very important thing to remember:
Always set the anchor points when you put the object on stage. If you set them after, the tweens get all messed up.

Good luck! Post comments and I'll help you if you get stuck.
