Tech borders

First, take the image you are going to make a tech border around.

Then make a new layer on top of the picture.
Then, take the Polygonal lasso tool and kind of draw in your tech border. It's best to hold the shift key down while doing this so you keep perfectly staright and diaganol lines.

Once you have "drawn in" your tech border, go up to the select menu and click "Inverse", wich will of course select the opposite of what you have selected.

Then, take the fill tool and fill in the area that you have selected with any color. The color does not matter because you will be using a color overlay in the Layer style.
Once you're done with that, slect the layer with the tech border, go to Layer > Layer Style > Blending Options and start applying these settings.

can some1 look at the fire effects post and tell me what happend when it isais it should look like this and there is nothing there?

The left side of your image is kind of distracting. 'tis too big. I think it looks good otherwise. However, the orange in the flames and that wheel thing kinda clash with the overall theme of your sig.

Good tut KDS, looks so easy that even I could use it :D
