I'm just wondering what the best way to host a forum would be on my own domain. Keep in mind I'm not willing to spend A LOT on domain hosting. But I can spend a little. Really the only reason I'm asking this is commitment to cost. If it was free then I'd just go for it. But I don't want to make any mistakes. Any help is appreciated.
I don't need basics. Like setting up ranks and stuff. Just the very start. Getting a domain and hosting a workable vBulliten on it. Note: Basically I'm planning on making a forum exactly like bwh (vBulliten) but it won't be related to hacking in any way. |

I'll help. brb.
edit: Hosting a small forum does not cost much. $5 a month would be enough. However, if you are serious about the forum, you're going to need some bigger hosting as it gets larger. For now, 500MB Diskspace, and 3GB Bandwidth would be enough. I highly suggest www.HostGator.com -- I've been using ZuneBoards with them for 2+ months, and no downtimes, no lag. Buying a domain normally costs anywhere from $7-$10. I suggest www.NameCheap.com for them. Also, google for some namecheap coupons. Like I said before, if you are serious about the forum, you should be a genuine vBulletin license. You can buy one for about $120 in Web Development forums, like SitePoint, NamePros, DigitalPoint, etc.. Or, you can get one directly from vBulletin.org. If you don't want to buy one, you can get a nulled/cracked version, which can be found on any torrent sites. vBulletin can easily detect pirated software, and can easily shut you down. If you want a free forum, try MyBBoard. It's an almost exact clone of vBulletin... but it's free!

http://www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml hatchling plan.
Would that be good for what I need? 84 bucks a year isn't bad for that. And is there anyway to pay for it besides credit card? Also. Thanks. Rep for you |
