Default Windows Vista Beta 1 Released to MSDN Subscribers

Beta versions of both Windows Vista (formerly codenamed ?Longhorn?) and IE7 for Windows XP are now available. Back in February we committed to releasing betas this summer. I?m sure it surprises some people, but we did what we said we?d do.

How interested you are in actually running pre-release software should depend on who you are. For example, I think that running pre-release MSN Virtual Earth or the Windows Antispyware Beta is interesting for everyone. I think NetScan is less interesting for broad audiences.

The beta versions of Windows Vista and IE7 that have just released should be interesting to developers and IT professionals. For this reason, the beta is available to MSDN subscribers and a pretty small set of pre-enrolled beta test participants. Our goal is to get feedback from this group, do a bunch more work around quality (performance, security, reliability, etc.) and some features (e.g. additional standards support beyond what?s in beta 1, additional functionality around tabs and RSS, etc.), and release Beta 2 much more broadly.

With Beta 1 done, you can expect much more active posting about technical details on the features that are now public. We?ve posted an IE7 Technology Overview, What?s New in Internet Explorer 7 for Developers, and an Anti-Phishing Whitepaper. Based on questions and feedback from the beta, we?ll blog and post more.

gdsotirov writes "Today on the IE blog the availability of two new beta tests - Windows Vista Beta 1 and Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 - was announced. These tests are mainly targeted to developers and IT professionals. Thus the betas are only available to MSDN subscribers. Tom's Hardware has details as well." From the article: "While the code also includes an early look at the new user-interface design, the majority of end-user features in Windows Vista will not be included until Beta 2. In addition to these fundamentals, Windows Vista Beta 1 also includes the Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 built into the platform. The technical Beta of Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP SP2 also is available today." Any early thoughts, MSDN subscribers?

The Beta isn't very compatible, but it is nice to see what Windows Vista will probably look like. If you are a MSDN subscriber, you are supposed to be able to get it from Microsoft. If you can't find a torrent for Windows Vista Beta 1, PM me.

More info: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/default.mspx (You should probably use the anonym.to)

Downloads:

Torrent (Courtesy of TPB)

Direct Download (In Seperate .rar's)

Windows Activation Killer (Big thanks to la3r!)

*Note* It would be in your best interest to use PG2 or something similar while downloading this. The serial is included in the .nfo of the download and last time I checked, Windows Activation Killer worked for Longhorn.

*Note* You also have to perform a clean install with this. Which means, you cannot, and should not install this over your current OS. Install it on a Partition with no files on it. And you have to have at least 256MB of RAM, not including Vid Card RAM. I think thats it. Enjoy.

*Another Note* Oh yeah, and also, you have to have a DVD Burner to use this. Its almost 2.5 Gigs. So, if you don't have a DVD Burner, you can't use this, unless you mount, which I don't think you should do.
I've just removed the links...
