Default Issues with Ubuntu and dual screens.

So, perhaps one of you Linux gurus can help me out. I've been using Ubuntu on my laptop for a while and I've been wanting to install it on my desktop as an optional boot.

The problem I've encountered is that when I load the Live CD, my secondary monitor switches off and the primary monitor gives me an epileptic-seizure-inducing show of colors. Does Ubuntu not support multiple displays? Or is that something I would have to fix after it is installed?

Something you have to fix after you install. It's a simple setting in your nVidia or ATI driver after the install. I've found that Ubuntu has great support for dual monitors. It will even do a huge cube across your desktops if you install compizfusion.

Hrm. So I unplugged my secondary monitor to see if I could install fine that way, and my primary monitor refuses to display the Ubuntu desktop environment. It simply shows its own error message "Analog 1: Can not display this video mode."

Hm, that's weird. I'm assuming you're installing from a LiveCD and it's the latest version? I'd try re-burning and if that doesn't work try doing a command based install.

its just ur video card is out of frequency, try setting it to like 75hz or 60hz, or the display is too big to show

edit --

but my 1st guess would be that that ur display is 2 high, try setting it to
800x600 and see if that fixes it

btw the you should get a better distro, not a noob distro that just came out not to long ago.

i use Suse or OpenSuSE, witch is the best linux distro out there.
