Instructions

Logos' StarCraft CD-KEY Grabber 1.16.0
1. Launch StarCraft (or Brood War).
2. Enter Battle.net, but don't log on!
NOTE: No Internet connection is required. All you have to do is ATTEMPT to enter Battle.net.
3. Alt + Tab to this program.
4. Select your StarCraft version in the list.
5. Click the 'Grab' button.
Note: You CD-key is not automatically copied to your clipboard automatically. This is to prevent any unwanted losses of clipboard data. Instead you can use the 'Copy' button (or simply Ctrl + C, etc).

The program is compatible with versions 1.15.1 through 1.16.0 of StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War. It has however only been tested with the UK version. The US version should work find too. As for non-English versions, I don't know. Try and see?

If you want your offset added (for non-English versions), PM me. I can write up a quick tutorial on how you can find the correct offset, if needed. Together we can make it compatible with more versions of StarCraft, if it isn't already.

If for some reason the above executable doesn't work on its own, you have two options:
a) Install Service Pack 6 for Visual Basic 6.0: Run-Time Redistribution Pack (vbrun60sp6.exe, 1005kB) from Microsoft (RECOMMENDED)
b) Download all the required DLLs:
Executable along with all DLLs
NOTE: While the executable in this ZIP archive is outdated (and should be replaced with the one found above), the DLL files are not. Just delete the EXE found inside the ZIP archive and extract the rest to wherever you extracted the latest version of the Grabber.

That's weird as it works for me (I only tested on Europe and Original though, but offset should be the same and it should catch BW window as it only looks for SC window if BW window wasn't found). Did you get some kind of error message? Or just weird data?

What if you launch StarCraft Original? And try on Europe? I shall have to look into this. Too bad I'm on the wrong computer at the moment.

And no, this thing does not steal your CD key.

As for justifying the actual program, the thread I was linking to is justification enough. Don't like it, don't use it.


edit: Just installed Brood War and tried the program on every gateway. Works. Btw, it probably only works for Win 9x, ME, 2k, 2k3 and XP. (Actually I've only tried it on XP, but API should be about the same.) As for Vista I don't have a clue.

What's your specs? OS? Latest SC/BW patch?

If you know how to use a debugger, here's what you do:
1.) Get to B.net log-in screen.
2.) Look on stack @ 12FD10.
3.) Go to the DWORD pointed to by the DWORD at 12FD10.

And there's your CD-key. Perhaps someone can make you a program with this information.

I'm going to make an updated version with improved error tracking. (This one was made in a rush, so it's only got very basic error handling.) And sure, I'll test it on another computer.

Sure. I personally use ArtMoney, but TSearch or any other memory editor / debugger should work to. Simply go to the offset specified above. The DWORD stored at that offset should be the offset of the first character of your CD KEY-NUMBER. It's easy.

OK, I tried it on another computer. Didn't work. Tried installed VB6 Runtime. Now it works. Didn't check DLL dependencies tbh. Seems like VB6 RT may be required.

Try it without rebooting. I didn't have to reboot. (For some reason, I had to launch the .EXE twice after installing VB Run-time in order to get it to work.)

That sucks man.

But sure.
1. Open ArtMoney.
2. Select process "StarCraft", "Brood War" or something like that.
3. Hit "Process" menu and select memory editor.
4. Make sure "Hexadecimal view" and "Hexadecimal edit" are checked and Cell view is set to "Integer 4 bytes".
5. In the "Moving" frame pick "moving to address" from the list. Enter 12FD10 and hit the ^ button. Now the top left cell labeled 01 will be 12FD10.
6. Whatever value is contained in 12FD10 you copy and paste to the "Moving" frame text box. Hit ^ again.
7. Now, on the right, in the right-most column labeled "Text" is your CD-key.

After you reboot, would you please try the program again and see if it works. Because it should. It really should.

If you have a value, just do this:
Edit it.
Set address to pointer and offset 0012FD10 + 0
Type = Text.
Encoding = WINDOWS.
Size = 13.

But that's not as fun and he is a very curious person. :P
