Hilarious.
The McCain campaign has been running 2 attack themes against Obama this whole campaign. That Obama doesn't have enough experience. That Obama is a "celebrity." So who does McCain pick as his VP candidate? A woman who was mayor of a town of 9,000 people and then for 2 years governor of the 2nd smallest state. She has no experience in national politics at all, or hardly even in her local politics. She joked that she got started by joining the PTA, that was only a few years ago! Can you imagine having someone this inexperienced a stone's throw away from the Presidency when the candidate is 72 and will likely die in office? My god, if we had a real emergency would she make us all cookies? She would get us all killed. A woman whose only major appeal is that she was a beauty queen in high school (the McCain campaign cited this as an advantage?!) and was rated as "America's hottest governor." Essentially she is purely a celebrity. She is certainly closer to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears than Obama is. This will backfire against McCain. Sarah Palin is very pro-life. Most women will pick this up eventually and it will repulse them. Sarah Palin has been brainwashed with all the typical Alaskan myths and lies about oil, drilling and climate change. We lost the last 8 years with Bush, can we afford to lose 4 or 8 more years by staying on oil and not switching to electric cars? Even if you don't believe in climate change why should we keep feeding Iraq, Iran and Saudi Arabia? If we drilled domestically we couldn't possibly even supply 1/10th of our own consumption. She is a glitter-toy, arm candy and an empty vessel. BECAUSE she is inexperienced women will see that McCain is only using her as essentially a sex object on a very primal level for photo-ops and more "gotcha politics." Women will see that she has been dehumanized and they will not forgive McCain for it. Nice to see the republican party still thinks about women they did 100 years ago. I can see Phyllis Schlaffy cheering in her grave. If McCain wanted to choose an accomplished, experienced woman he could have chosen Kathleen Sebelius or Olympia Snowe, but those two aren't as young and glamorous as Palin. But then, I thought the McCain campaign had genuinely cared about "experience." So much for that.

Surprisingly enough, if we drill here, we WILL be able to sustain ourselves for a while. Long enough to ween ourselves off oil.
And it's not like the oil companies don't want to find alternative energy sources, because whoever does will basically be able to open a whole new market with huge horizons and a high demand.

You're right, it's not that the oil companies don't want to find alternate energy. That's because they already have.
THEY OWN THE PATENTS TO MORE THAN 20 TYPES OF BATTERIES, ALTERNATORS AND OTHER ELECTRICAL DEVICES THAT CAN BE USED EASILY AND CHEAPLY IN CARS. Go wiki the 1997 EV Rav4 or the 1992 Chevy Volt and find out what happened to those car companies. We don't need anything to "ween" ourselves in the "meantime." We could switch over tomorrow if Exxon and BP would stop suing people. cala, maybe you could explain how it's a good strategic choice? Are people going to forget everything he's campaigned about so far? Are they going to forget all the ads about experience or celebrity?

Moving to a foreign country is looking better and better. I wouldn't vote for either of the main choices out there right now.
Where do you get your numbers that the oil up here couldn't keep up with 1/10th the need?

Except that Obama is not the opposite of Biden. Obama is not as experienced as Biden but Obama does have some national political experience. Palin has none.
Obama also never made experience and celebrity into issues in this campaign, McCain did and then he abandoned those issues in a second. Does that bother any of his supporters? Do you guys care that McCain doesn't stick to his beliefs? He's a true flip-flopper more than Kerry ever was. It's just like after 2004, when McCain changed his stance on virtually every issue: Iraq, immigration, tax cuts, torture, campaign finance reform, etc. How can you trust a man who changes his beliefs and values so frequently and so wholly?
