Ah, I get it now =). I never knew about that destination/source port thing, I thought both clients needed to use the same port or something, thanks! =D

Hrm, if that's the case...would it be possible just to make a simple hack to change the port #? Seems easier and more compatible than programming your router =p.

yes the registry is easiest method and still works, i posted the registry file to use to do this in here, let me find it and i will link it.

edit:2 comps play in same game

only thing wrong in that guide is the default port which is 6112 not 6114 my error.

ya, ****ing crap, I know I've tried that before with no avail :(

By the way, YN: The only problem with a hack to do that is that I'm not sure if your router will do the NAT for you (ie. foward requests from the internet, to your box based on the port you hack it to). It's definilty worth a shot.

Just a question, but is there any difference between this method and the port translation built into my router's gui?

Ok, there is one catch. You need to be able to program your router. No, I'm not talking about the ****ing http web gui (ie. port forwarding and triggering). You need to be able to login to the router with remote access (ie. telnet, ssh, etc...)
So, to answer your question. No, that's not the same. That can only forward the port, not change what number SC uses.

But I can change what port appears to the outside world. I have done it with windows remote desktop connection (the program requires port 3389) for all computers behind the router. To reach different computers, I put myipadress:portIpicked for each machine. But if this is different, I am screwed as my router doesn't run linux but retarded WinCE and, while flashable, is a total pain in the butt.

the problem with is that the inbound port will always be 6112, how do you know which computer to send the information to 192.168.1.100 or 192.168.1.101? The answer is, you can't tell...and that's the whole problem.

So no, that wont help you.

Can both computers host simultaneously?

no.

Only one computer can accept incoming connections to port 6112 TCP/UDP at a time.

two people can't host...but they sure can play in the same game. can your router do that, if so, tell us the model number so we can just go buy it.

thanks
