wow this is a very good guide. thx Tempest
I got a WRT54GS v2, with DD-WRT v23 SP2. I guess it won't work on mine right?, L4cky mentioned it won't work...on this forum... however, i tried to follow your guide but as i was trying to save with ":wq" it gave me a write error: read-only file, how do i fix this? For users that updated the firmware with DD-WRT, In administration, enable your SSH under services and remote access under managment (if for WAN)-the default are all disable (read the doc), to connect with Putty. I had a solution before, i think, for playing sc with two computers. I don't remember if it worked thou. I had this WRT54GS router and a 3com hub. It was configured like: modem-> hub -> router \/ \/ desktop laptop the connection was slow, and a hazard to my desktop, but sc worked i think...dunno why thou... |

SC & WRT54G
I've read through all seven pages of this thread as I recently re-encountered this problem. I want to thank to TheTempest in advance for doing the R&D and posting his findings (aka the alleged fix).
TheTempest: I'm going to try your iptables suggestion this evening and attempt to post the results if I remember to do so. I do however have a question about your solution: According to Blizzard http://us.blizzard.com/support/artic...rticleId=21109: Quote:
If not, can you explain why? Also, can you also comment on my situation described below? For all you folks who want to learn more about iptables, I highly encourage you to read up on it:
I just want to share my situation: Back in 96/97 when we all had dial-up ranging from 28.8 to 53.3k, lag was hardly an issue for me on BNet, but was encountered from time to time. By now it should be obvious that bandwidth is not the issue, as many of us have a broadband connection of sorts. Consider the following: I have a symmetrical 15Mbps FiOS circuit with 5 static IP's. Instead of describing my network topology, take a quick look at this map:
Someone once mentioned the slowness had to do with the fact that the LAN folks were sharing IP's. While it could be true in some cases, I used two separate IP's and still had the same issue.
The next question is: What is there left to check? What are the other constants? The Netgear switch and the FiOS ONT. Now, I doubt the ONT is the problem, and I don't think I'll be able to replace it, so maybe its the switch. * - I say potentially as it is possible that the switch itself is simply overwhelmed with data on the port(s) in question. If that's the case... What kind of a switch would I need to overcome this? Do I need a gigabit switch? Do I need to ante up and get a Cisco Catalyst 2908/16/24/48+? (Any CCDA/CCDE's in the house?) I can tell you right now, I'm not going to go out and spend umpteen hundred+ on a [managed] switch to fix this problem. Thoughts/Comments/Suggestions/Criticism (constructive or otherwise) welcome Thanks for taking the time to read this post. |

I found another way to fix the lag behind the same router it works for the wired and the wireless the router i have is: WRT54G V5.
You have to go to the security tab and uncheck Block Anonymous Internet Requests and Filter Internet NAT Redirection and it should work with no lag you can even create games! this router is popular too so this should help a lot! other things ive tried in the past to fix the lag was a switch which didnt work and a different router called Greentek which didnt work either good luck!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

After sending a PM that wasn't answered, I decided to **** it with my ****ty linksys BEFW11S4.
I bought a Linksys WRT54g v3 on ebay used. I received it two days ago. My friend and I spent about 3 hours configuring it (we stupidly installed the new version of kamikaze openwrt on it, which has no GUI and also no longer supports NVRAM commands, so we couldn't reflash it to the old White Russian release). It took a lot of work and effort to get back to a White Russian release firmware on it, but once we did, we implemented this method from the OP. At first it didn't look like it was working, but after reading the part on the second page of the thread about restarting the firewall, it worked like a charm. Thanks soooo much! We are having so much fun 2v2ing people on bnet. You should put that part about restarting the firewall in the first post so people see that. Thanks again, this is fantastic ![]() |
