Easy WAV to MP3 Converting

Are you sick and tired of trying to find a good wav to mp3 converter that isn't shareware that gives you only 1 minute of your audio, or one that just gives plain old errors?

This is a way to bypass using any programs and directly access the lame encoding which is the best encoder and most widely used.

1. Download lame encoder from http://www.free-codecs.com/Lame_Encoder_download.htm
2. Extract lame.exe to somewhere sensible (e.g. C:\Program Files\Lame\lame.exe)
3. In an Explorer window, go Tools > Folder Options
4. Click on the File Types tab
5. Scroll down to WAV; select it
6. Click on the Advanced button
7. Click New... to add a new right click association
8. In Action, type in Lame MP3 128kbps (or something descriptive)
9. In Application used, type in "C:\Program Files\lame\lame.exe" -b 128 -h "%1" "%1-mp3.mp3" (including quotes)
10. Click OK, OK, Close

There, now all you need to do is right click the wav file and press "Lame Mp3 128kbs" or what ever you named it, and it will convert! for those experienced with command based applications, go ahead and change the flags at your own taste (you already knew that tho ;-) )

this might look complicated for some, but this is a one time setup, once you do this all you do is right click the file and select "Lame mp3" and next thing you know it there is a mp3 right there.

Very nice tut. I changed 128 to 256 so it gets higher quality, though. You should include on setting bitrates...

for those experienced with command based applications, go ahead and change the flags at your own taste (you already knew that tho ;-) )

by changing from 128 to a higher bitrate, you are doing what i said you should do, if someone is not smart enough to know how to do that, then they obviously are not going to know the sound difference between those two bitrates, not many people can.
